Tricks for speeding up WAN connections

Assign applications to specific categories and only allow certain users to access the corresponding programs.
Use compression tools to reduce the size of data packets and thereby the amount of data to be transferred.
Use efficient protocols to minimize the transfer of data. For example, switch to UDP if possible, and avoid bandwidth-intensive TCP/IP.
Check installed devices such as routers and firewalls to make sure they can handle the expected traffic. Incorrectly configured firewalls can disrupt or even completely block traffic.
