Speed up VoIP troubleshooting
Digital telephone connections are becoming increasingly important, whether you’re dealing with your company’s own IP telephone system or the external voice-over IP (VoIP) services of an external provider. These systems are often plagued by errors, including poor to mediocre voice quality and sudden interruptions in calls.
PRTG Network Monitor identifies potential VoIP errors and weak spots so you can fix them at once. By monitoring your digital telephone connections, you’ll ensure your VoIP communications run smoothly.
Monitor latency, packet loss, and
jitter with PRTG
VoIP errors can cause a variety of different problems, from annoying static and echoes to sudden dropped calls. These errors are mainly caused by packet loss and long latency times, both of which affect the quality of your connection. PRTG keeps a constant eye on these parameters, as well as jitter values. It also monitors your Mean Opinion Score (MOS), which allows you to evaluate the overall voice quality of your calls.

Reasons for malfunctions
IP calls can bug for a variety of reasons. Your VoIP gateway may be improperly configured, your SIP provider may be skimping on the promised amount of bandwidth, or users may not be entirely familiar with how VoIP calls work. A monitoring tool like PRTG can help you keep track of all these issues. PRTG lets you spot and remove VoIP-related errors at once.
Check the quality of network device connections
PRTG comes with several preconfigured VoIP sensors so you can set up your VoIP monitoring with
just a few clicks.
These include the QoS (Quality of Service) Round Trip and QoS (Quality of Service) One Way sensors,
the SIP Options Ping Sensor, and for Cisco devices, the Cisco IP SLA and SNMP Cisco CBQoS sensors.
Among other things, these sensors can be used to monitor SIP response codes and the quality
of your network connection.
Quick and easy VoIP troubleshooting with PRTG
PRTG immediately sounds the alarm if errors or malfunctions crop up in your VoIP. In the alarm function, you can choose to be alerted by SMS, push notification, or email. PRTG reveals the cause of the problem, allowing you to get down to troubleshooting at once. With PRTG, errors are eliminated immediately and costly VoIP downtime is kept to a minimum.
Monitor Cisco routers and switches
Cisco devices such as routers and switches collect jitter value themselves. PRTG comes with the preconfigured Cisco IP SLA Sensor which lets you monitor the preset threshold values of your Cisco IP Service Level Agreement (SLA). This sensor uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to read and display jitter and other VoIP values. PRTG also comes with the SNMP Cisco CBQoS Sensor, which uses Cisco Class Based Quality of Service (CBQoS) to monitor network parameters by way of SNMP. Among other things, this sensor helps you track and keep packet loss to a minimum.
