Performance Testing

Performance testing is an important part of network monitoring. A network administrator needs to know how much load servers and network connections have to withstand at normal and at peak times, and should be the first to know when performance issues occur.

PRTG Network Monitor is a powerful network and router bandwidth monitor, which checks the uptime and availability of network devices, monitors web performance, temperatures, disk space and CPU load, and tracks network bandwidth usage. As it gives you a complete view of your network, PRTG is also very good at troubleshooting Windows XP services and other network and performance issues.

Availability and Speed Tests

The free network management software (which supports up to 100 sensors) can be used as an advanced PING tool, which not only ensures the availability of your server, but also tracks response times. For performance testing purposes, you can set notifications to alert you of long response times.

Bandwidth Performance Testing

PRTG can also be used as a bandwidth manager and internet usage meter: the software shows you network bandwidth usage. Depending on the analyzing method you choose, bandwidth consumption can be broken down by port, protocol, IP address, or other parameters. These advanced bandwidth analysis capabilities allow you to buy bandwidth and hardware according to actual needs, and to prioritize certain kinds of traffic (such as VoIP traffic or Video streaming) in order to ensure good network performance.
